Restaurant Review - Red Indian Sizzlers


The reverberation of the Imam chanting the Isha’a on a tranquil Friday sunset in sync with the flamboyant exteriors of the one storey tall Red Indian Sizzlers had set up a handsome atmosphere for me and my family to have a scrumptious dinner. Despite the lack of parking space, the hospitable personnel made an immediate arrangement for an alternative. The glass door which leads into a spacious dining hall has a multicoloured Red Indian hat embossed on it. The cream walled interior flaunts a lot of woodwork with a timbered ceiling, and two distant cylindrical pillars bisect the room in two exact halves. A framed certificate from Burrper’s Choice Awards of burrp.com praising the restaurant’s sizzlers is hung on one wall with pride.

A group of chattering teenage girls drowned the pleasant hum of the old English folk music. There was a huge table occupied by a Gujarati family which looked at the youngest kid loitering around and then there was a couple getting cozy in a corner table. A waiter dressed in black trousers and white shirt with a bow tie escorted us to the table. Bottles of Worcester sauce, Red pepper sauce, Oregano and Chilli Flakes formed a fine quartet on the table. We were handed a woodback menu which had scores of various preparations from Chinese, Italian and Mexican cuisines.

We scanned the extensive menu and ordered a Large Mexican Platter from the Mexican Starters. It was a nice arrangement of four portions of every item. There were Cheese Corn Balls which had American Corn and melted cheese covered with corn flour, deep fried. There were Tortilla Chips and Bean Tacos, tacos stuffed with beans and cheese. Baby corn Fingers, and Onion and Capsicum Rings were all prepared in corn flour and olive oil. In the centre of the platter were two cups of Cheese sauce and Salsa sauce filled to the brim, not to forget the peeled and lit tomato.

After the tasty Mexican Platter, we ordered the Red Indian Special Sizzler. The sizzling plate had thinly chopped carrots and French beans with several sliced mushrooms, full size baby corns, and diced cottage cheese cooked in mushroom sauce and served with rice. The entire preparation was topped with a fried patty and a potato smiley, loaded with cheese and a dash of fresh cream. It was a well crafted sizzler and left us wanting for more.

Followed by the sizzler we ordered Legume Al Forno, an Italian delight which comprised of Garden fresh vegetables, baby corn and mushrooms all cooked in creamy rich besciamella sauce with pineapple. It was cooked to golden brown and was served with four portions of warm garlic bread. This Italian preparation was undoubtedly the best I had ever tasted in any of the Italian restaurants.

Then, we finally ordered for what we all were craving for, two sizzling brownies, the house special. The sizzling plate had two rectangular brownies topped with two large scoops of vanilla ice cream and walnuts, and a cherry on the top, overloaded with melted and boiling chocolate. It was the ultimate stage to heaven.

The best thing about Red Indian Sizzlers is that most of the food is at par with its famous sizzlers. Despite it being a Pure Vegetarian restaurant, the menu has a lot to offer. Food is quite reasonable, and costs around Rs. 600 for two (no estimation for gourmands!!). The place is just five minutes’ drive from Kandivali (W) station and it attracts a cosmopolitan crowd in a Gujarati dominated suburb. The place is well kept with a well maintained washroom, which is of prime importance. All in all it is a must visit restaurant in the suburbs.

  3. Thanks Srinivas. Actually, I have been a frequent diner there ever since the time of it's inception, so there's a bond of sorts. However, this review is completely unbiased.
